How to get rid of the gaobot.gen virus

I want to get rid of the gaobot.gen virus that my computer got last week. Symantec is my antivirus protection service and
it gives recommendations that I can handle except changing the registry on my computer. Symantec suggests it would be better to use Microsoft instructions on how to get rid of this bug and change the registry because I have Microsoft XP but I can't find this bug listed on the Microsoft security bulletin. Should I go ahead and use the Symantec description of how to change the registry or should I get professional help?

Symantecs instructions should be fine..

If you follow them CAREFULLY - you should be okay. They WARN you because it
is possible to screw up your whole machine with a bad registry edit. heh
