My Windows XP Pro OS came pre-installed when I bought it
in 2001. I am trying to recover from a crash - but using
the Sony Recovery disks creates problems because its puts
me back at square one. Due to the many configuration
changes since 2001 (including FAT32 to NTFS), the RESTORE
is far from perfect - many apps are not working.

I'd like to get a clean install of XP Pro - without all
of Sony's "additional junk". Sony can't help because they
tell me the product is out of warranty. My extended
warranty plan does not cover software.

Please advise.

Visit your favorite store that sells computer software and
purchase a conventional "Full Version" of Windows XP Pro
and proceed with a "Repair Install" or start from scratch and
perform a "Clean Install". Otherwise, you are limited to using
Sony's limited methods of restoring its custom version of
Windows XP.

You need to buy Windows from your local software store, if Sony does
not provide a true Windows version (what is not very likely).
