How to get help when working offline

A

Andrus

I installed VCSE 2008
I need to read help in places where internet connection available.

Local help installed with C# 2005 Express is very incomplete.
For example

clicking DataContractSerializer or XmlObjectSerializer topics in

ms-help://MS.VSCC.v90/MS.msdnexpress.v90.en/dv_linqsql/html/252ed666-0679-4eea-b71b-2f14117ef443.htm

returns

Information not found page.

In previous version (VCSE 2005) XmlObjectSerializer topics worked OK
locally.

How to install full help in my hard disk so I can read whole help without
internet access ?

I can't comment on the 2008 version, but I can say that I found the 2005
version of the help to be very complete, provided it was installed
correctly. If I recall, there was some user-selectable option with
respect to whether the content should be found online, stored locally,
etc. and of course you would want to make sure that you indicate to store
the help content locally.

Note, of course, that the online help does benefit from community
comments, both in terms of the added content at the bottom of pages, as
well as having pages updated according to user feedback. The locally
stored help will never be quite as up-to-date as the online help. But my
experience was that the local help was complete with respect to the API
itself. You may have some sort of installation error if you're finding
that documentation pages are missing.

Sorry I'm not of more help. I just wanted to reassure you that, at least
when it's working properly, the locally-installed help for 2005 versions
is fairly thorough, and not at all "very incomplete" as you describe it.
