Using Outlook 2003 on XP workstations. Server runs Exch 2K /SP3. Tried to
set up mail to be automatically forwarded to an "outside" SMTP address,
using Out-of-Office rule. Also need an informative reply automatically sent
to original sender. I simply cannot get this to work consistently. Is there
any configuration needed on the Exchange side?
Thanks for any input.

Exchange side indeed. You'll need to allow automatic forward to the
Internet;
Open Exchange System Manager-> Global Settings-> Internet Message Formats->
right pane doubleclick Default-> tab Advanced

1. this looks like the solution to my same problem. My
concern is does that compromise security on the exchange
server by opening us up to internet? We have firewall &
security, etc.

2. Does that mean that all user profiles who turn on out
of office assistant will now reply to emails sent from
out of our office? Formerly, OoOA only replied to users
on our Exchange server.

thanks for your help
