How to get a printer ICC profile to be available in the windows drop down?

I must be missing the obvious.

I downloaded an Epson profile from the Epson site and renamed it from
SP2200xxx.icc to SP2200xxx.icm. Installed and associated it with the
printer.

It shows under settings/printers, but when in an app and printing -
going to preferences it does not.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
G.

Why did you rename it? ICC is perfectly good.

Where did you put it?

In XP it should be in the folder Windows > System 32 > Spool > Drivers >
Colour, with all the other profiles.

Win 98 in Windows > System > Colour

Program Drop Downs will only show the Profile List if that Program uses C.M,
and most Windows sub programs, like Word, Internet Explorer, etc., are not
CM aware.

Media Specific Profiles should not be associated with the Printer, otherwise
that association might cause problems when you are trying to select a
different Profile in your printing dialogues.

That choice does not exist in Windows

<<system name>> >System32>Spool>Color

Windows does not have colour but it does have color.

For system name substitute windows or winnt or what ever you called the os at install time.

Nobody cares about W98 any more.  It want the way of CPM and TRSDOS

I was under the impression that ICC is for Apple Mac and ICM is for
PC.

Yes, it installed itself in:
Windows > System 32 > Spool > Drivers > Color
Win 98 in Windows > System > Colour

Maybe this is the answer. I find the profile under "Print with
Preview", but the media type isn't listed in the "Printer Properties".
I have to use one of the standard Epson media types, which don't
include Canvas or other manufacture's media like Red River or Lexjet.

Your not kidding. I wish I read this before I associated the profile
and made it the default. Had to uninstall the printer and re-install
it to keep Explorer running. Must be some incompatibility between
Epson profile/driver and Windowz.

All profiles have an internal name. Photoshop i.e. lists the profiles
by the internal name.
So it is no good idea to rename a profile.
