How to get a networked 16bit application to run on XP Pro

I am upgrading our companies Windows 2000 computers to new systems with XP
Pro. There are some applications that are on my network that are 16 bit. I
tried to manually change the compatibility settings but because it is on a
netowork, it will not let me.
How do I get a 16 bit application to run on XP Pro?

Several 16bit application work directly in XP. Without more details
on the type of applications, we can only tell you "general"
suggestions.

Do you know what type of network protocol is needed? Most XP
networking would use TCP/IP protocol
