How to force IE6.0 to download/save files to my other drive?

Hello,

I only have about 1 GB free on my C: drive. I noticed downloading files
go to C: drive temporarily and then moved to the proper place on my E:
drive when completed. I need to download a 2 GB file from FilePlanet,
and there is no way it will fit on my C: drive.

How can I force IE6 to save directly to E:? I don't need it to do any
temporary. Just save it on E: directly. I am using Windows XP
Professional SP2 (all updates).

Thank you in advance.

Ant is/was listening to a song on his home computer: Bad Boys Blue - A
World Without You (Michelle)

When you click a "download" link, usually you get a small window that
wants to know if you want to RUN the file or SAVE it... If you click SAVE,
there should be a SAVE Dialogue window open and you can send it to anywhere
you want.. There shouldn't be anything go to Temp folders UNTIL you install
it or whatever..

That is what I did (default to e:\dl). I even tried again. I am not sure
where it goes on in my C: drive. It does NOT go to C:\Documents and
Settings\Ant\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ since I do not see
the file growing. I even cleared the folder before downloading.

Weird that Process Explorer v8.61 shows C:\Documents and
Settings\Ant\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\EOWJFAJ7\. How come Content.IE5 is not seen? I have to
type that in manually to go there. The download is saving to
C:\Documents and Settings\Ant\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\EOWJFAJ7\StarWarsGalaxies_setup[1].zip.

Ant,
This sounds a little wierd to me.... Is your E drive a HD or are you
trying to
save it to CD or what? As for not finding the IE5 content... That is
another whole
subject.. I don't want to get into that here...
While you have IE open, click TOOLS/ Internet Options and click the SETTINGS
button on that window and then click on View Files and see if you see it
there.
XP has a couple little quirkes that I and some others are not to thrilled
with.

E: is a second partition of my first IDE HDD. I have HDD partitions up

OK!

If you mean my download, it wasn't there. Not even IE5's Content.

I can see that. I am currently downloading the big file in Mozilla and I
have it going directly to E: drive's folder (same location).

I still would like to fix this in IE though in case any Web sites demand
IE. :(

Ant,
In any case, when you do the save in on a download, IE "should" give you
the option of WHERE you want to save it.. I might be missing something
here..

Burt, I told it to save in e:\dl. That's the default location I picked.

IE always downloads files to the TIF folder and then moves them to the
specified target location. So far as I know, there's no way to change
that -- it's built into the code. What may work is to move the TIF folder
to a drive that has more space available. Go to Internet Options >
General > Settings > Move Folder and select a differeny location.

Thanks. MS needs to fix that design. Not everyone has that much free
disk space on the system drive.
