To everyone who has the problem where if you run the
updater, it says it's updating from definitions 5719 to
5721, even though you have already done so, I have found
a workaround for this annoying bug. (If anyone from
Microsoft sees this, could you plase post this workaround
on the Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta site)

If you don't have a copy of the installer, go to
http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1/5/815d2d60-
49b5-44dc-ae35-
fca2f2c6f0cc/MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe and save the
installer to your desktop or wherever you like to save it.

Run the installer, and select "Remove." Now reboot your
system. Then run the installer again, and install the
program. Launch the program, and run the updater. If
you run the updater again, you won't see it downloading
definitions 5721 and instlling them each time you run the
updater.

Hi Alan:

I was having the same problem and your recommendations
resolved the updating defintions annoyance.

Thanks

I have this problem on three PC's. I removed Microsoft
Antispy using Add Remove in the Control Panel,
reinstalled but the updater still carried on as before.
I have followed your advice in removing MS Antispy from
the Antispy installation/remove, rebooted and still
finished up as before, excepting that it continually
updates from 5685 (the original exe file)to 5721.

Comment?

Andre,

Whatever caused the file mismatch seems to now have been resolved on the
server side as my machines are no longer downloading the same definitions
file repeatedly.

Thanks
Jason
