I purchased a new system without an OS. The System is a
Compaq/Hp 6000Z. I installed (a clean install) Win 2000
Pro along with the win 2K drivers. I then donloaded and
installed the SP4. I also installed Office 2000 and the
version of IE

System does not work as follows:

1. freezes whenever it feels like it.
2. when it does allow you to connect to the internet via
the ethernet(DSL), it says your web server cannot be
found. If I close and then enter from the quick launch
button it will display. When you wish to change page then
it will say server cannot be found. (I am on the server
on another computer at the same time under a different
account)
3. it drops connections to the web whenever it feels like
it.
4. if you attempt to open a word document, it freezes the
system.

I then tried a repair to WIn 2000 to see if that would
help and it did not.

So I have concluded that Win 2000 Pro must be removed and
I can start over or I can go back to NT or WIn 98SE.

Any ideas how to fix problems? How do you uninstall Win
2000 Pro

Thanks for any help

Bummer, I took a look at PC mag's rating on this hardware and for
business performance they gave it a 25.4 out of 50! Ouch. It would
appear that you are going to have to research the components in this box
and make VERY sure you have the correct drivers for everything and I do
mean everything. Compaq was known for proprietary configuration/hardware
and with AMD and or VIA tossed in you may need MB drivers too. I don't
envy your position a bit due to the amount of sorting you are going to
need to do to get this working right.
