Was trying a different 2nd drive in my PC and this problem came up when I
returned to my original hard-drive configuration:
(Nothing was knowing changed on the system drive.)
Now, on power up, I get a message:
"Please select the operating system to start:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Use the up and down arrow keys to {select} ...."
=====================
If the 1st line with "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" is selected, I get
a message that \system32\hal.dll has been corrupted and "Please re-install a
copy of the above file."
If I select the second line of "Microsoft Windows XP Professional,"
everything boots up normally, as it originally did.
How can I stop the system from going to this selection menu and simply have
the start-up go with the second line operation that I now have to select
manually? (Or re-install the copy of hal.dll that the system wants?)
Thanks much for any help.
