I have just figured out how to sort your contacts
properly. It is a quite long way but as far as I know its
the only way. In the contacts view of Outlook: do the
following:
Go to VIEW/ARRANGE BY/CURRENT VIEW/CUSTOMIZE CURRENT
VIEW/ then a new window will pop up, then click
the "fields" button and then make sure that the right
hand column is in the following order:
Full Name
First Name
Last Name
This is to sort your contacts by First name.
Simply change the order of First Name and last name to
suit your preferences.
Hope this helps.
I don't think this is very user friendly and I hope this
gets changed when the full version becomes available.

Not sure if this applies to versions before 2003 beta
with technical refresh installed. Good luck anyway.

Nothing is going to change, nor is Outlook 2003 any different than earlier
versions.
This seems a bit more laborious than necessary.
You never mentioned which view of the Contacts Folder you are trying to
customize.
Did you just try the Sort... button?

There is no sort button....not that I can see anyway.
I am using the "detailed address cards view."
Where is this "sort" button you mentioned?
Cheers,
Paul

Same place you found the "Fields" button. Been there on every installation
of Outlook 2000, 2002 and 2003 beta I've used.
