Hi experts,

Can you tell me how can I check whether I am behind the Router or not? Is
there anyway to run a check? I am given multiple Public Static IPs from ISP.
I am not sure I am behind the firewall or not. Please let me know.

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
KLN.

Can you check the physical network connection from your PC? Trace the wire
back and see where it goes.

Do you know what your public IP addresses are? If so, check the PC to see
if it's using one of them. If it is, then you are not behind the router; if
it is not, then you are behind the router.

Probably because the IP addresses the public PCs are being given are in
different address ranges and aren't visible to each other. This is not
unusual with most ISPs and fixed IP addresses unless they are assigned in a
very narrow range (say, as an example, 100.100.100.101 and 100.100.100.102).
The easiest fix will probably be to add each PC to the HOSTS file so that
the addresses can be resolved.

For example, if PC1 has IP address 100.100.100.101 you'd want to add:

PC1 100.100.100.101

to the HOSTS file on PC2, and if PC2 has IP address 100.100.100.102 you'd
add:

PC2 100.100.100.102

to the HOSTS file on PC1.

Just curious. Those IPs seem to be too close just one number difference. But
why they are unable connect each other? Thanks again!

It doesn't seem to work yet. As per your suggession I added IPs to "hosts"
file located under "Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\" (Windows 2003 EE) folder
in each system. But no go yet. Can you please revisit my problem and see if
there is anything that I should be doing?

As I mentioned to you, my IPs are provided by same ISP and they are same and
just a number difference. Subnet is same. Please let me know if you would
like further details.

Thanks for your help!

KLN.
