I want to check if I need more RAM in my laptop with WinXP
professional (currently I have 126 Mb RAM). I remember in Win98 there
was a way to find percent of utilized memory - is there a similar
thing in WinXP?

Thanks,

Zalek

Several ways.

1) Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information.

2) Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Performance (If you
are set to Classic view)

you can also press Alt+Ctrl+Del and go to the "Performence" tab to watch
your memory usage in real-time.

Thanks,

I checked option 2 - and have no idea how to find info about memory.
There is a yellow line that shows "Object memory" measured in
Page/sec.
When I open Internet Explorer - the yellow line grows to 100.
But I found that by pressing Cntl-Alt-Del I am getting a Win Task
manager.
There I see:
Physical Memory
total 130544
Available - 17540
System Cache - 48100

Does it means that WinXP takes almost over 100Mb of RAM to itself and
leaves for applications only 17Mb?
I know I had a lot of junk loaded during startup - I cleaned some, but
still - only obout 17Mb left for application (my laptop has 128Mb).
Where can I find information how to tweek the system and get more from
WinXP?
Is 48Mb reasonable amout for system cache?

Thanks,

Zalek
