I am getting hundreds of spam emails and the only I can think of is that I
am getting them because my email address is on the user groups.

Is there a way to fight it, report it and disable spam?

Thank you,

This really isn't the place for this question. But yes, posting your email
address in the NG's would cause you to receive spam. Most people who post
change the address that is displayed and add something like NOSPAM to the
address so that a human can take it out but a program wouldn't.

Thanks

Hi Dino,

Someone put me on to MailWasher, a utility which downloads just the
headers from my mailbox and allows me to delete before I waste my bandwidth on
the rubbish itself. A wonderful utility for a weekend like this. :-) [570 and
counting]

It is also able to set up filters using pattern recognition (RegEx) in the
various mail fields. This way you can receive a spam message and add a filter
to discard any more like it. You can override the filters with known good
sources so that you don't lose valid (eg friends') messages to the filters.
Etc, etc.

There are other programs which do a similar job. Perhaps it's time to
check some of them out ?

I've been using SpamBayes. It's a free add-in for Outlook and it works
pretty good for me.
It doesn't block spam but it sends it to a different folder so it doesn't
fill up your Inbox

You could even write your own relatively easily with vb.net. I have a c# sample
program (SwenZapper) in the demo version of the Mail for .Net components at
www.abderaware.com. There is not a vb version yet, but it's a simple console
app and shouldn't be too difficult to translate.

Hi Zane,

I saw your last post and went to your site. You have a fine array of
goodies there. ;-)

What's the name "abderaware" all about ? Is there an "abdera"?

Fergus

Do they work with exchange server as well?

PS. Thanks guys, lots of helpfull hints. Yes Fergus, I was at ~750 this
weekend too.
