How to establish a members area that requires login?

I want to see up a members area that will require them to login to gain
access to our scheduled events. How do I go about doing that?

Your host will have to support subwebs and unique permissions under the FP Server Extensions

I was just going through the FAQ's of the company that is the server for the
website.... it appears ASP isn't supported there and I have to use MySQL.
Any advice?
