I have text where I want to always have the space character as part of the
two ajoining words. In the past it was termed a hard-space. Just as we have
a hard-icon.

Could not find hard-space, or other clues in the MS word help

I believe you need what Word calls a nonbreaking space. Press
Ctrl+Shift+SpaceBar to insert it.

Do you mean a "non-breaking" space? This is where the two words do not split
apart but always stay on the same line even though there is a "space" between
them. If this is what you mean, then you can insert the non-breaking space in
one of two ways. Either select Insert/Symbol from the menu and select Special
Characters and select Nonbreaking Space or you can Ctrl+Shift_Space. The
latter is easier to do, but the former works if you can't remember the
shortcut.
