Go to your Tools at top of IE browser.
Open internet options
Go to advanced tab
Make sure all the java console enabled boxes are ticked off
and then
click OK
and reboot your computer...
should work.
luck, shelaght

I'm having the same problem enabling JAVA and it's very frustrating.

All help files seem to say to go to the advanced tab on internet options and
click all "enable JAVA" options or the "JIT Compiler for virtual machine
enabled (requires restart)" options. But NONE of these are listed on the
advanced tab there for me.
What's the deal?

If you don't have the options, you probably don't have a JVM application
installed. MSFT lot a lawsuit to Sun Microsystems over Java, and they can't
support it any more. If you truly don't have Java installed, your best
option is to go to the Sun Microsystems site and get their JRE 5 package.
