I recived an old HP HDD running XP. I need to know how to
remove the partition so I can delete that section of the
HDD and be able to install the WIN 98 on the HDD.. I some
how got win 98 to load on the 11% non ntfs but 4 gig of
space is not enough space.. Also, would it help my
problem if I just broke down and bought a new ver. of WIN
XP? thanks....

It's possible to remove the NTFS partition in a number of
ways:
1) Using FDISK from a Win98 boot disk,
2) Using the Disk Management console in Windows XP,
3) Using any one of a number of 3rd party tools like
Partition Magic.

Purchasing a new copy of XP is a different issue, depends
upon whether the hardware will support it, etc. If the
original operating system on the computer was Windows 98
you may not have sufficient resources to run XP
effectively (CPU speed, amount of RAM, etc.). You CAN
remove the hard drive's partition from an XP install disc,
however . . .

Good Luck !

You could download and create a bootable floppy from bootdisk.com and run
fdisk to delete the partition.
