Newgroups

I am in the process of building a database for a group of people at work and
I was wondering if anyone out there can explain or show me where I can go
and get information on setting up the security in Access.

There are 5 different groups and about 10 to 15 people in each group that
are going to have access rights to the database. I would like all 5 groups
to have view access and then each group will have access to their own part
in the database.

I am new at doing the security for Access and I don't even know where to
start. If there is anyone out there that can help, it would be very much
appreciated.

Thank you,
Tom

I will have a book out on Access security and protection
by October, 2003.

That will at least provide a good reference for exercises
like below.

Sounds to me like you initially need to establish a
flexible menu system as much as security. I would suggest
that you look at

1) Startup options to ensure that users are using the
interface as you would expect.

2) Develop menu so users encounter the menus that you
want. Try DatabaseCreations.com for software that might
help this or you could setup a variation of the
switchboard manager for this purpose.

In the early stages of a database, concentrate on getting
the data model correct.
