When i try to do a repair install on XP, it sayd the version on my computer
is newer and setup cannot continue. Also I don't see anywhere to click on
repair install. Do I need to uninstall service pack 2 to do a repair install
so it won't say I have a newer version already installed?

That's a choice, but a better one is to install SP2 onto your CD. You do
that by a process called slipstreaming, making a new CD with SP2 installed.

In a less imperfect world where MS really did complete thier products,
any SP that smashes compatibility with your installation disks
(repair, Recovery Console) would generate new replacement disks - both
as a skippable part of the install, and as an on-demand feature.

In a perfect world, products would ship with no defects to patch!
