How to display a slide show on TV?

I have Movie Maker 2.1.4026.0 and Photo Story 3. Using WinXP Home. I have a
CD/DVD-RW on my computer.
I am completely confused about how to create a slide show using one or the
other so it can be viewed on a regular television set via a DVD player.
It appears to be a zillion of formats, tricks, acronyms such as VCD, DVD,
SDVD(?) which just add to the confusion.
I am not inclined to spend money on any additional software as I would be
doing it maybe once or twice a year just to send some shows to friends and
family.
Can someone be kind enough to help me to figure this mess out?
Thanks,
Nathan

Same Problem

I mastered making a few movies and I can play them on my computer, but now
I want to play them on my TV using my dvd player. I used Movie Maker to burn
them to cds but they won't play on the home DVD. I see that "HighMAt" is on
there and I don't find much info on those kind of supported videos. If this
takes rocket science I'm doomed. Please help me and Nathan!

Movie maker doesn't make DVD Video.

You should save your movie as DV AVI (if the source video is DV) or WMV (if
the source is mostly still pictures). Afterwards use a third party DVD
Encoding and Authoring program that accepts these as source and write to
DVD. Such programs include myDVD and Nero Vision Express 2/3. Most often
such software come with your DVD recorder.

See http://www.rehanfx.org/faq.htm for more details.

Nathan this seems a real bug bear - I am also trying to find the answer to
burning slides via Moviemaker onto DVD with music and play the slide show
back using the same format on computers/TV. Perhaps a Musicmaker wizz will be
able to help with simple instructions!!!
