Hello,

Each time I insert an IOmega zip disk into my external disk drive, the
Windows XP starts a scan, than shows me the file types found on the
disk and asks me with which program I wish to open them. I DO NOT want
to be assisted this way and I would like to disable this automatic
"helper", but I do not know how to do it.

Any help ?

Thanks

I don't know if this will work for your Zip drive, but it works for my
CD-ROM drive. Right click the drive letter in Windows Explorer. Click
the AutoPlay tab. Click the radio button for "Select an action to
perform," and select "Take No Action." This should prevent that
annoying helper window from appearing.

There is a catch with a USB drive: each time the system finds it, it
cosiders it as a new unit and resets the settings to their default
values. Consequently, the strategy you propose works for the current
session, but after a reboot the "helper" comes back.
