How to disable a driver

Is there a safe way to disable a driver, to determine if it is the cause of
probems? In particular, I suspect a file

fwdrv.sys

in \Windows\System32\drivers as being the culprit of some incessant crashes
on a particular system. Is there a way I can disable this file (e.g.
something in an ini file I can disable or such so that this driver is not
used/loaded upon startup and while running?)

Thanks

Find the file and rename it by putting an _ in front of the
file.

You can restore it to operation later, by just deleting the
_

Try Control Panel/system/hardware/device manager and right click on the
suspected device and disable it.
