How to delete virus on the computer

Windows XP has been down for three weeks. I finally found
out that the computer had a virus the worm. I tried to do
what the support said to do but the computer would not
take the second request. I now have a nessage that states
I have three security updates to do but windows update
error came up. Ox800A138F Microsoft.I would appreciate
wome help. thanks
