How to delete remote mail from my inbox

How can I delete remote mail downloaded to my inbox without also deleting it from the mailbox on my server?
 
You can't. That's how remote mail works. But what about moving the items you don't want to delete from the server to some folder other than your Inbox?

How can I leave messages on the server for someone else and delete the
headers on my machine?

As I said, you can't. But you could move the headers to another folder on your machine so you don't have to look at them.

That was my first thought - to move the headers to a folder and never look at them again. But unfortunately Outlook 2003 won't let me do this. I'm stuck with them in my inbox forever by the look of it.
 
You can't move the headers in Outlook2002 either.

This task cannot be performed for message headers. Download the complete
messages, and then complete the task.

Even if you could move them to another folder are you implying they would
have to be left there anyway.

If someone has downloaded the headers once can they still be downloaded by
someone else?

Do you know of any system that does allow me what I want to do?
