Hi Everone

I am a newbie to this group so please bear with me.
Have just been given a Jenoptik C160 camera and listed
as DSC[2770]. The manufacturer is SQ Technology and I
understand the camera is about 18 months old.
I
've managed to sort most things out like taking pics etc.
My problem is how do I *delete* pics from my camera?

Have read in photo newsgroups that under the Scanner &
Cameras wizard there should be an "advanced" button which
gives you the option to delete the pictures from your camera.
In *my* S & C wizard there is *no* advanced button!!

Also I cannot find any help [manuals etc] at the manufacturer's
Web site. And what do the symbols mean next to the mode button,
i.e.: 0, oF, St, Ct, CL, CI, Hr, 60, Hd ? [after Hd it reverts to 0].

I have telephoned the distributor who is trying to find me a manual
but have not received it yet.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

I don't know your camera.
Normally there is a menu setting on a digital camera with the option
"Format"
If you navigate your menus you should be able this option. Just select it.
It will delete all the photos and prepare your memory card for new photos.

Have you even attempted to read the manual that came with the camera?
the manual was included to answer questions such as the ones you
posted...not to act as padding or to add weight to the package.

Hello Yves [and anyone else who could help]

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean there are menu settings on the actual
camera? The only thing I can see is "Mode" which, when pressed, shows all
the letters mentioned in my first post. I cannot find anything which says
Format.
But thanks anyway, I'll keep trying.

You might be interested to see my separate reply to NoNoBadDog.

I have 3 digital cameras. Two from Sony and one Minolta. All have "Format"
on the LCD menus of options. This is the easiest and safest way to delete
all pictures on the memory card of your digital camera and set your memory
card for new pictures.
I understand you do not have a manual for your camera and obviously this
lack of manual makes it difficult for you to find the option "FORMAT" but it
has to be there. Sorry I don't have this camera and can't help with more
specific directions.

And why don't *you* read the f***ing post before
responding?? Hint: It's an 18-month old camera, and she's
tried--unsuccessfully thus far--to obtain a manual. Moron.

Hi Everyone [except NoNoBadDog], but especially Yves and Wislu who both replied
thoughtfully and sensibly to my recent post.

Thankyou both very much. I have now been assured by the manufacturer that a user
manual is on its way to me - FREE! And, whilst I was on the phone, the Manager
explained what all the letters and symbols were relevent to the "Mode" section - how's
that for great service?

Thanks for a great newsgroup.

Incidentally I posted a separate reply to NoNoBadDog, but odly enough it was returned
to me unread!!!

However, you all might be interested to see what I said in my post to him. Here it is below:

Dear NoNoBadDog!

Many thanks for your sarcastic reply.

Had you read my message properly, you would have
noticed that in my 4th paragraph I mentioned that I could
not find any help [manuals etc.] from the manufacturer's
Web Site.

However, hopefully you will read this reply properly and realise
that if I possessed a manual I would have had no reason to post
the first letter at all. I would have found all the answers to my
questions in there, wouldn't I? Just to repeat, I was *given* the camera,
*minus* a manual.

I think it rather trite of you to reply to a newbie in a manner which is
not only unhelpful, but also timewasting.

I am so glad that people like you are not classed as my friends.

Bad Day, Bad Dog? Feeling a bit rough?

Hi Jeni

Keep pressing your mode button until Cl comes up, then press the shutter
button. Cl stands for Clear.

IMHO The DSC 2770 chip which this camera is built around is crap, and the
provided drivers are of very very poor quality. My sister purchased a
similar camera to yours. Due to the shoddy drivers it is impossible to use
this camera under any user who dies not have administrator rights. As I'm
not about to give the rest of the family admin rights to my computer,
especially my sister which has a particulary bad track record at stuffing up
my PC, the camera is next to useless.

Driver coders take note, if your going to code a driver for a (crappy) OS,
make sure it works under all access groups, not just administrator. Some
people have the better sense to realise that Windows moronic behavior of
making everyone administrators by default is very BAD.

Hi Everyone [including Lee Ryman who replied very recently...sorry for this late message]

Thanks all for replying to my recent dilemma of how to delete photos with my [not very good?] Jenoptik JD C160 camera.

I've now received the manual from the manufacturer and, having read up on other DigiCams, I realise this one is a lower-end one, more of a fun one, for snapshots really! But... I've taken some reasonably good pics and am quite happy with the results. The Hi-res mode is not too bad at all, and yes I've also learned how to delete 1 or more photos now.

However, this has given me an insight into digital photography so I suspect I'll be getting a better camera later in the year. I thought my AAA batteries were being "eaten" ! they only lasted for a handful of photos. I now see the necessity for buying some rechargeable batteries and battery charger!

This is a great news group. I have learned a lot from your comments. Thanks again.

Regards

Jeni
