My Windows XP has two partitions and I would like to
delete one of them. Does anyone know how to accomplish
that?

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing
partitions, and not harm your existing Windows installation, is
to use a third-party partitioning program, such as Partition Magic 8.

Otherwise, a "clean install" of Windows XP will be required
since you'll have to delete all the existing partitions and create
a new single partition.

Partition Magic is one product that can create, delete, and resize your
partitions. I use it. I've been told the freebie Ranish partition
manager (http://www.ranish.com/part/) is also usable but I haven't
needed to try it.

PM can also destroy your data/partition. I have had it
happen many times. It does not work every time, so
make sure you have everything backed up where you can
restore the drive before you use it. That program has
caused me more grief than any other program.

Use this software called 'Partition Magic'. Alternatively, you can
boot to DOS and use FDISK, but that is any ugly approach (and
potentially dangerous) if you don't know what you're doing.

I must be missing somethings:
According to the Help and Support page for Windows XP which is where you go
to find out about issues, specifically,' to delete a partition or logical
drive,' the instructions are to open Computer Management (Local), click on
storage, click Disk Management and then right click which partition you wish
to delete. You are forewarned that you will lose all data on the partition.

When most people ask about deleting a partition, they don't simply
mean deleting it. If you just delete it, the space it used to occupy
will be unallocated, and unavailable to be use for anything. It would
be a very rare person who would be happy with that result.

So when people ask how to delete a partition, what they invariably
mean is that they want to combine the space it used to take with
another existing partition. For example, if somehow has a 100GB with
two 50GB partitions, C: and D:, when he says he wants to delete D;,
what he really means is that he wants to delete D; *and* make C: the
full 100GB.

Undoubtedly, although his question didn't make it clear, that's what
Reg wants to do. Carey certainly realized this, since he has often
seen such questions before, and that's what his answer addressed.

Carey is correct. It is not possible to do this without third-party
software.
