yar

I have had problems with my vista machine and now have windoes.old and
windows.vista folders.

I want to delete them but do not have permission, how can I delete them.

Thanks

Hi yar,

You merely need to take ownership of them. Right click the folder and select
properties. Go to the Security tab and click on the Advanced button. Go to
the Owner tab, click on Edit. If you don't see your user account listed in
this dialog, click Other Users or Groups, then Advanced, then Find Now.
Select your user account from the list, then click OK/OK. Now check the line
to Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects, then click Apply. It will
likely take several minutes to propagate. When complete, use Apply/OK to
close the dialog. You should now be able to delete those folders.

Back up your data to an external USB backup drive, always a
sensible thing to do, then reformat the drive.
You can't delete the operating system, while it's in use, or format
the operating system drive..
You can, after saving your data, use a boot disk with the format
command on it.
Best is to have 2 drives, one for the operating system, and one
for data. Then, if for any reason, the system won't boot, your
data stands a better chance of being safe.
Won't boot is not uncommon, the dreaded "No system Disk"
message, caused by one of many possible causes, a virus,
setting up a dual boot goes pear shaped, hard drive failure, etc.
