How To delete mail on the host/server in outlook 2007?

I just experienced a situation where today I clicked the "send/receive"
button and
there was 65,000 email trying to download into my Outlook 2007 inbox.

I have Cox Cable and apparently when I reached about 1/2 GB of email of my 2GB
capacity, something became compromised and I could only download 65,000
email or none at all. It would not allow me to download just the new email
as it had
done each and every time previously.

And, of course, Cox blamed it all on Outlook. However, I tried to delete
one page
of email at a time and I could not do so because it would hang and then time
out and an error page would appear.

I was finally able to delete all 65,000 email using Cox's option to delete
an entire folder. However, it timed out several times before all email were
deleted.

So, MY QUESTION IS THIS: How can I choose to have my email on my Cox
Webmail account deleted when I download email to my Out;look 2007 inbox?

I searched the Help database and I cannot find anything regarding such a
setting.

Thx!

Zack

its an option in tools, accounts.

There is no such option under tools, account in Outlook 2007 (I think there
use to be in Outlook 2000 to remove email from the server when it was
downloaded. I am having the same problem. So I logged into msn.com,
hotmail, and there are message that have been there for months. So, Again,
how do I setup OUTLOOK 2007 to remove email from the msn server once it has
been downloaded???

Unless you're connecting via POP, there's no way to do what you ask.

I also don't understand why Outlook 2007 is not capable of downloading files
from my email server and deleting when I had successfully done this with
Outlook Express for many years. I tried setting up my accounts a pop3 but was
informed they could only now work under the IMAP options.. feels like yet
another Microsoft monopoly?

I do have all accounts set to download full content but this just does not
happen. BTW - I'm running Outlook on Vista, for my sins.

Years ago, MSN allowed POP access to its mail servers. They stopped that.
Outlook Express can't do it now either.

"IMAP" is probably not what was displayed. "MAPI", perhaps. I don't
believe MSN/Hotmail allows IMAP access either and I can't imagine what
"monopoly" you mean. Any mail provider has every right to dictate what
protocols must be used to access their servers.

MSN/Hotmail accounts do not download messages in the same sense that POP
accounts do. Instead, they echo the contents of the server mailbox to a set
of matching folders on your own PC. Change one and the other synchs
automatically. If you wish to remove the messages from the server, then
just select them and delete them. If you wish to be able to see them but
remove them from the server (although it's not really needed), then create a
set of local folders and move the messages from the server to those local
folders.
