outlook 2003. seems to insist on using a little used contact to resolve an
email name. i'll type 'susa' . there are seven susans in the contact list.
no suggestions pop up. after i leave the To: field, it is filled in by
'susan peterson'. it never comes up as a suggestion, so i can't delete it. i
hardly ever use it, so i don't know why it suddenly decided it was the only
susan in existance.

i tried changing 'susan' to 's.usan' in the offending contact. no
difference. i've tried renaming the .nk2 file. outlook starts a new one with
the same behavior. apparently this problem is stored somewhere else.
any suggestions?

how many contact folders or address books do you have? Outlook quits looking
for more when it finds at least one match in the first address list. If all
Susan's are in the same contacts list, all of them should be listed on the
right click menu (right click on Susan's name in the To field)

i have the contacts folder (which, btw, i have renamed 'aContacts' under
properties>address book so it will come up first, instead of one of the
subfolders, when i want to pick names after clicking on the To:, changing it
back to Contacts doesn't seem to have any affect), and three subfolders
under Contacts. the 'susan peterson' is in the 'misc' subfolder. the susan's
i want to see are in the 'contacts' folder. if i type a different susan's
whole name several times, and pick an email address for her, the next time i
type susan it will offer that address. if i don't accept it, 'susan
peterson' gets automatically inserted. seems like i should get a list of
susans from the contact list, not default to one from a subfolder. and why
did it start defaulting to 'susan peterson'? i hadn't even written to her
before it started happening.
