Am using XP with Office 2003 I have a extra "Personal" folder listed
in the all folders list that I want to get rid of. How can I delete
it?

The extra personal folder is a pst-file connected to Outlook. Rightclick the
folder and choose Close to disconnect it from Outlook. When you restart
Outlook you can also delete the corresponding pst-file from your harddrive.

That's the problem... the 2nd folder (which seems to be a clone of the
original folder) doesn't give me any options to close it. If I click
on properties it just shows that it is in the normal folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook outlook.pst

I'd even be happy to create a new .pst but I get more folders. I have
saved mail into Outlook Express in case.

Any other suggestion?

Thanks!

it;s a ghost of your folder. You can try closing it using File, Data File
management but if that fails, the easiest way to fix it is to create a new
profile using control panel, mail. You can try to edit the registry to
remove the ghost, but it takes guess work and can result in a bad profile,
requiring you to create a new one.

To remove ghosts:

Each pst has two different keys in the profile at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles. The ghost only has one. You need to find the
key for the ghost and remove it. With 1 ghost, you have a 50-50 chance of
deleting the right key.

Thanks Diane,
Somehow I managed to remove it, importing/exporting to different email
clients and back into outlook. <yippie>.
Now I have a problem with the address books. I have several. When I
begin a new email and click on the To: the "select names" box open and
the 1st item listed is my contact list. Then if I try to move down to
another address book/list using the "show names in the" and I try to
view the next address book I have in the list severl contact list and
other address books that no long exist and an error message comes up.

In the folder view, the addressbook are listed correctly.

first, check the properties of all contacts folders and make sure they are
enabled as address books (r-click, properties). Open the address book (tools
menu) and open it's tools, options menu. Delete all of the contact folders
and add them back.

I'm confused...
All the contact folders that show up on the Outlook folder list have
"show this folder as an addressbook" These folders are OK.

The other "ghost/dead/deleted" folders do not show up any where other
than when you hit the TO: and the "select names" box comes up and you
go to the "show names in" box. I don't have an option to delete them
from this area. The exact error message is:

"The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder
associated with this list could not be opened. It may have been moved
or deleted or you do not have permission. For imformation on how to
remove this folder see MS Office Help"

Did not find the answer in help.

PITA here who needs more help

Thanks
