Hi,
I was browsing through alt.binaries.ebooks and would like to get
something. Since these are multiple files which need to be merged and/or
unzipped, I wonder how to do that.
Is there a software which can do that all "in one go"? Since there are no
icons to unzip I wonder how to proceed. Can somebody please give me a lead
where to start?
Can the same software be used to handle pictures too?

Thanks,
Murgi

A quick peek at that NG and I see that most of the files are encoded
using yEnc. These files can be easily downloaded, decoded, and
reassembled using a news reader such as grabit http://www.shemes.com/.
(It leaves you with the zip or rar of the file/) If the file was a
multipart zip or rar file, they can usually be be unzipped or unrared
using your favorite unzipper/unrarer/

if the files include a .bat , stick all the files in one directory, virus scan
them then double click the .bat file to recompile the archive

hope this helps!

Microplanets Gravity newsreader is very good at doing this. You just
select all the posts containing parts of the file, right click on them
and select decode and away it goes.

Try BNR2 (Binary News Reaper)4M-
http://www.bnr2.org/
"BNR downloads and decodes binary articles and saves them on your hard
drive to the directory of your choice. BNR can also download text
articles, but other news readers are probably better suited to this
task. BNR will run on PC hardware running either Windows or Linux
operating systems."

Easiest thing I know to grab binaries - any binary - is GrabIt. Shows you
one post instead of multiple, automatically downloads and combines all.
