How to deal with missing records

I have a base in AC2000 where I choose a record to print with a SQL quiry at
Report properties, Data, Data Source with "[Give desired record#]" or "
=[give first record# to print} and <=[Give upper record# to print]". This
works very well untill I give a number that does not exist or a record#
between the limits is lacking. I have tried some possibilties but I am
apparently not clever enough to find the right way to get a message telling
the user what fails. I would also like the program to jump to the next
record# within the given limits. Which code to use and where to put it ?
Thanks in advance!

You could have the user type in the cord number in a
select box and filter your report based on this box. This
would prevent them from selecting a non existend record.
Hope this gives you some idea.
