Recently, I have been crashing and a message appears that tells me that mrtRATE.sys has caused windows to crash. It began when a megahertz 56K pc card was installed. Can anyone offer me any advise on how to deal with this message
Mark Question

Hi Mark? :-)

I looked in the Microsoft KB articles to determine what mrtRATE.sys was,
since it didn't sound like ours. It's apparently a component of Quicken.

Here's the link to the KB in question:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810905&Product=winxp

Let's try the steps listed in this KB article, and see if it works for you:

1.. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3.. On the View menu, click Show hidden devices.
4.. Expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers, and then locate the Mrtrate driver.
5.. Right-click Mrtrate, and then click Properties.
6.. Click the Driver tab, and then click Stop under Current Status.
7.. Under Startup, in the Type box, click to select Disabled, and then
click OK.
8.. Quit Device Manager.
The article also suggestions you contact Intuit for further assistance with
this issue.

Please let us know if these solutions work for you. I'll be glad to dig a
little deeper if you need more assistance. :-)
