Hi,

I'm using Diskeeper Premier Pro 2007 Since it's the only self-running,
defragmenter for x64 Vista Ultimate, that I like.
After running a few defragment

I'm getting this same list for
"Most Fragmented"

Fragments File size Most fragmented files
62 879 MB \$Extend\
$UsnJrnl [Excess Allocation]
11 4,897 MB \System Volume Information\
{9408eab9-3173-11dc-b314-0015c5b9
1541}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-040
46e6cc752}
9 556 MB \System Volume Information\
{60861987-30f7-11dc-ae49-0015c5b9
1541}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-040
46e6cc752}
7 2,274 MB \System Volume Information\
{60861910-30f7-11dc-ae49-0015c5b9
1541}{3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-040
46e6cc752}

The bottom 3 don't bother me, since as soon as I remove the movies,
I put there to watch on the plane, they'll be gone. What does bother me is
this:

62 879 MB \$Extend\
$UsnJrnl [Excess Allocation]

I repair Hardware, and only troubleshoot my own PC's OS's. To me
62 fragments for only 879MB seems excessive. Then it appears the USN Journal
has
Excess Allocation. What does this mean?
How can I repair this Excess allocation? I looked in the KB, but came up
empty.

TIA,

Have you contacted Diskeeper > website / email / help, to see if they have
the definition of "Excess Allocation" and maybe a solution.

I use Diskeeper also but have not had similar listing in my reports.
I presume diskeeper is defraging and just advising that this was where the
most defrag areas were.

Just a thought and possible explanation >
I do not use Journal but maybe the journal in allocated a block of HD space
and if the journal data goes over the allocated space, then data is randonly
placed on the DH, therfore fragmenting the HD.
Do you get my drift.

Having read some info in KB it appears that my explanation is correct.
What you need to do is increase data storage space for the journal.
That I am still working on.
As long as Diskeeper is still defrag'g, and not letting remain fragmented
you do really have a problem.
Diskeeper to my knowledge does not leaves area un-defragnmented, imfact I
would be very surprised if it did.
I have been using it for a few years now, and can not fault it.

Do NOT have a problem.
