Hi,

I wanted to create extended partition on my Vista OS. It already has 4
partition and its now allowing to create one more primary partition.
So want to create extended partition.

Please let me know how to do it.

Thanks,
Mahesh

I do not want to delete exisiting partition so if extended is not
possible then how to create dynamic partition?

Thanks,
Mahesh

Vista Disk Management only creates primary partitions. If you need to create
extended partitions use a 3rd party partition tool.

That should be:

Vista Disk Management only creates primary partitions. If you need to create
extended logical partitions use a 3rd party partition tool. An extended
partition is a primary partition.

If you're feeling adventurous, use diskpart.exe.

Wrong information! Vista Disk Management creates also extended
partitions and logical drives.

microsoft.com says:
"When you create partitions on a basic disk using Disk Management, the
first three volumes you create will be formatted as primary partitions.
Beginning with the fourth volume, each volume will be configured as a
logical drive within an extended partition."
you have to click 'Show all' in order to see that text.)

In case one doesn't want to have 3 primary partitions, it should be
possible to create three small primary partitions and delete two of them
later, as suggested here:
http://www.optimizingpc.com/install/partitioningharddisk.html.

You could use the diskpart command from an elevated command prompt to create
an extended partition.

As allways, microsoft's tools do things the most stupid way it can be
done...
No wonder why microsoft's manual readers are so ignorant.
