How to create backup website for frontpage 2002?

Yes. You could actually burn the entire directory and all the hidden files
to a cd. Just remember, that features such as the search bot, forms bots,
etc. don't work while they're on the CD since they require a web server. The
other main point is that if you have to return them off the CD, they may all
be marked as read only. You'll have to remove this read only flag through
Windows Explorer after they're copied back. Also, permissions will be lost
on a Windows XP machine since the permissions don't get copied with the
files.

Hope this helps,

As a test, I zipped a web folder, then burned it to a CD. I then unzipped
the folderfrom the CD to a new folder on my hard drive. It appears that no
files are marked "read only" that way. I can open FrontPage 2002 and open
the web that was unzipped, but it appears that the theme used is the same one
as an altered theme on my hard drive. Can you verify this theory?

Thanks, Ken

Zipping the entire web and burning the zip file to CD will, as you
say, prevent files becoming read-only.
The theme in the unzipped web will be that saved in the zip file.
However, if you modified a theme and did not save it with a new name
and apply the new theme to your site, then FrontPage will
automatically replace your modifications with the original theme.
This will happen in the original web as well as the unzipped web when
you re-open it in FP.

Yes, publish the site to a folder on your hard drive; then copy that folder
to the CD....
or as I do, just copy the folder straight to your CD (I personally use a
250mb ZIP disk, and for me it's a straight copy and paste....)

I know this is an old thread, but I hope someone gets this updated question
for it. I've zipped a website created on one computer, emailed it to my
other computer at another location, then unzipped it. However, when I open
the web, it is not complete anymore. The shared boarders, logo, etc., are
all gone. Please explain how I can shuffle this web between 2 locations via
email to work on it before actually publishing it to the web - or do I need
to do it via a cd?

IF your online live web has FP extensions installed and working...just open
it live from your other computer and Publish it down to your hardrive.
