How to copy folder between networked drives

I can't believe that I can't do this; I'm sure I've done it many times
before in the past!

I simply want to copy my (massive) My Documents folder, together with all
it's subfolders, over to another PC on my home network. However, if I
drag'n drop it, all I get in the destination folder is a shortcut back to
the source folder. If I try to Ctrl-C it, the PC doesn't seem pick it up at
all, so when I then try to Ctrl-V to the destination, nothing happens.

What on earth am I doing wrong?!!?

Thanks
David

This may sound trivial, but are you sure that this folder is shared?
Is your network active and can each PC on your network see the others?
Navigate to the My Documents folder with explorer and right click on
it. Check properties and make sure that the folder is shared. Once
it's shared you should be able to copy all the files from it to any
other shared folder on all of the networked PC's.
I share files and folders over my network all the time flawlessly.

Post dating for starters. You and I are in the same time zone, yet you're
seven hours ahead. Your zone appears to be correct, maybe your clock and/or
calendar needs changing?

Anyway, please do so - it's in your own best interests: -

1) Many people (myself included) won't respond to post-dated posts (other
than to tell the perp to fix their settings). You're doing yourself out of
assistance.

2) Many servers will strip post-dated posts as it's a tactic used by
spammers.

Are you trying to drag & drop the desktop one?
That's only a "shortcut" - if so, try it from inside Explorer.

right click the Start button and select Explore. In thee left directory tree
locate your user account name and left click to open the directory into the
right pane. click on My Documents directory (in the right pane) to highlight
then go to the Edit menu and select "Copy To Folder". Now navigate to My
Network Places and expand. Then locate your destination and copy there.

Sorry about that. This is really weird - I'm in the UK in fact (is that the
time zone you thought I was in? I can't get that info from my newsreader).
In fact, my clock was exactly 24 hours ahead of itself. My PC updates
itself automically from an internet time server, and was definitely correct
the previous day. I noticed exactly the same behaviour a few days ago, and
corrected it then.

What on earth could be causing this? Is this behaviour characteristic of
any known viruses? Having said that I'm running ZoneAlarm and McAfee
VirusScan, and neither have flagged anything.

Any advice appreciated

Brilliant, thanks - now sorted.
Very odd though, I've never had to do it this way before.....!

Possibly something to do with the time server and british summer time?
Just a vague guess. Why not try turning off the automatic updating and see
if the problem disappears.
