Is it possible to copy files from my hard drive to an external DVD using
Windows XP SP2. Do I have to install an external program to do this?
I would think Windows XP would come with drivers which would allow this?
My internal drive is a read only.

Thanks,
Ken

Not sure whether the built-in burning app in XP will burn to DVD - you can
certainly use the ext DVD recorder to burn to a CD though......

You'll need to purchase and install a third-party DVD recording
program, such as Nero:

XP does not support writing to a DVD whether it is internal or external.
They decided to leave such a task to third parties (possibly to avoid
further anti-trust activities).

You need packet writing software such as Easy CD Creator or Nero.

As others have told you, you need third party software. However, odds are that
any DVD R/W drive you buy will come with the requisite software.

3rd party software is needed, but not necessarily packet writing
software. That's for using an RW disk as a big floppy drive.
