If at all possible, what is the easiest way to copy a
database from my home computer to my work computer? Both
operate off of the Office 2000 software.

Hi Kandy,

Assuming that it's an ordinary Access database and that both computers
have Access 2000 installed: usually all you have to do is

1 "Compact and repair" the database (not essential, but reduces the size
of the file

2 Close the database

3 Make a copy of the .mdb file containing the database and take or send
it to the other machine. Any of the following will do, depending on the
size of the file:

-Email it to yourself

-Copy it to a floppy disk (and at the other end, copy it to the hard
disk before you try to open it)

-Copy it to a CD-R or CD-RW disc (and at the other end copy it to the
hard disk, right-click on the file's icon in My Computer or Windows
Explorer, select Properties, and clear the Read-Only property).

If the file is too big to fit on a floppy disk (or to email
conveniently), you can use compression software such as WinZip. Most
..mdb files will compress to half their original size or less. (If you're
using Windows XP, the ability to "zip" files is built in.)

Thank you...the database is too large to email from the
computer I have at home -though I have not tried to zip
it yet. I'll try that first. I have burned a copy to CD
and when I opened it on the job computer, it was "read-
only." I tried to clear the "read only" property but not
in Windowes explorer and not before I'd opened it. I
assume it is an ordinary database and I am most interestd
in getting all the table relationships copied with the
database. I'm hoping that is not too much to hope for.
I am looking forward to the success of at least one of
these options.. Thank's again for all your help. KT

Any file on a CD is Read only.
Copy the file to your C: drive first.
Then change the Read only property on it.
