HI, I am writing from Peru and I have a Novell connection in my work. Since I
updated my Windows to Vista, I am not longer able to connect or even see my
Novell Network... Could anybody help me?

Same boat here.

If you can enable CIFS on the Novell boxes you might be able to map to them.
Otherwise, you're SOL since the current client won't work, and Novell has
said they won't have a Vista-compatible client until sometime after Vista
ships.

Since you need to connect to a Novell Network, you should not have upgraded your Windows to Vista without researching into how Vista works with Novell Networks first. This is why Microsoft also advised against upgrading Windows to Vista on a production computer.

The best thing you can do is to make a clean install of XP on your computer, deleting the previous partition and recreating it as a new fresh partition, then install your programs and utilities that you need to connect to a Novell Network. If you feel you need to have Vista on your computer and have the hard drive space, or a second hard drive, then create a dual boot scenario so that you can have XP to connect to your Novell Network and Vista for other things.

Thans,
If you are like me and have an older version of Netware that runs IPX
only, you are out of luck with Vista.
The Novell news group indicated that upgrading the Server (to a
modern) version will be the only solution. :(
I lost a great many of the easy to use 'Netware DOS supporting
features' on my Beta System.

BTW the Vista update advisor did not catch that there was a Netware
(4.91) Client (or that it was using IPX protocol) in use.

Another reason to keep older your old computers running older O/S .

Oh how the once mighty Novell has fallen. What business are they in
these days?

SuSE Linux mostly, that works fine with Novell network gear
surprisingly enough.

As indicated in the other responses, there is not a Novell Client for
Windows that is compatible with Vista yet. Once there is a Novell
Client for Vista, you will have to be using a version of NetWare that
supports TCP/IP, as there will not be an IPX protocol available on
Vista.

If you have at least NetWare 6.5 SP5 or later, you should be able to
use the CIFS (Samba) emulation that NetWare provides. However, at
least in my experience it required:

(a) Changing the "Network security: Lan Manager authentication level"
policy on the Vista workstation from its new Vista "NTLMv2 only"
default down to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if
negotiated". (This is in the Local Security Policy.)

(b) Applying the post-NetWare 6.5 SP5 update "n65nss5a.exe" on the
NetWare server itself, to resolve some server-side CIFS issues.

This thread discussed this topic (as well as many others):

Are you sure?

Windows Vista uses TCP/IP as its standard network protocol. For a Windows Vista-based computer to connect to a NetWare or Macintosh
server, you must use a protocol that is compatible with the server. NWLink is the Microsoft implementation of the Novell IPX/SPX
protocol, which allows you to connect to NetWare file and print servers. However, the IPX/SPX protocol is not available on Windows
Vista 64-Bit Edition.
