I am a new XP user, and have been frustrated that the 5
different users of my computer do not all see the same e-
mails that come in to Outlook Express. If I read mine,
then my wife comes along later and opens her user screen,
then Outlook , she doesn't see the e-mails that arrived
when I opened Outlook on my user. There must be a way to
re-configure this, but I haven't figured it out yet. Any
ideas?

Notes:

1) If your hard drive is NTFS formatted, you may need to adjust the folder
permissions to give all users access.

2) You should not leave OE open if you use Fast User Switching to switch
between accounts.

How do you do what? Follow the instructions at
www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_oe.htm for modifying each user's profile to
share the same mail store location.

For file permissions:

XP PRO: In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck
Use Simple File Sharing. Now, when you right click on a drive, folder or
file (on an NTFS partition) and select Properties, you'll see a Security
tab. Here you can assign or deny permissions based on user name or user
group membership.

XP Home: By default, you can only make files and folders under My Documents
"private". This is done by right clicking a folder or file and selecting
Properties, Sharing. To change the permissions on other folders, you need
to boot the computer to Safe Mode and log in on the built in Administrator
account. In this mode, you'll see the Security tab in Properties, and you
can assign permissions based on user name or group membership.

tab appear outside of Safe Mode)
