Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:
Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )
So - you essentially want to 'show desktop' with a single click?
http://www.theeldergeek.com/restore_show_desktop_icon.htm
http://www.internetfixes.com/question_and_answer/IF00167.htm
Etc and so on.
(You will need the quicklaunch enabled and/or add the shortcut tom someplace
in the start menu...)
Thanks, Shenan.
I searched the first four pages of that Google link, but couldn't find
anything. There are a couple of programs listed there to download, but
how would I know if they're reputable?
That thing you called 'Notepad' isn't in the Program files folder; I had
to search for it in Start > Search > Files and Folders before I could
find it.
One of the set of instructions you linked to says,
"Launch Notepad and type these lines:
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
"Save the file with the name "Show Desktop.scf", including the quotes,
to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch, where username is
replaced by your actual user account name."
The instructions fail to specify if the type should be ".txt" or "all
files".
The instructions also fail to say if the encoding should be ANSI,
Unicode, Unicde big endia or UTFj-8.
Another problem: my username folder doesn't contain a folder called
"Application Data" It contains four folders, called Desktop, Favorites,
Shared Documents, and Start Menu".
(Thank the gods I have a Mac as my main computer and my problems here
relate to my auxilliary p.c.; this stuff is so friggin' hard and
time-consuming to learn on non-Mac p.c.s.!)
