how to close something in the startup

when I open the windows xp there are too much programs
in the start up ,so the windows xp start up very slow
how can I close some programs in the start up

In control panel you will see a startup icon. Click this and look at
what's running, but remember some things need to run at startup (and
some things will also automatically restart themselves)
The other thing to do is look at the setting for things like winamp,
which may have a choice to run at startup, which you simply untick.
 
Download a program called StartUp-Cop from the PC Magazine site. It makes
changing the start-up items a snap.
