How to Clear To: Recipient Field History

How does one go about clearing the To: field (recipient
field) history when composing a message in Outlook 2002?
I currently have two display names for the same user, one
pointing to the Private Store, one pointing to their SMTP
address (Properties of the recipient). This user is in my
site, on the same Exchange server.

Is there also a way to disable to To: field history in
Outlook 2002? The feature is much more frustrating and
annoying than it is useful, much like the animated office
assistant.

To clear a single address, start typing the address. When the name
resolutions appear, simply arrow to the unwanted entry and press the delete
key.

To stop using this feature completely, go to tools->options->email
options->advanced, and uncheck the option for automatic name checking and
the option to suggest names when using the To, CC and BCC fields.

Hi Milly,

Your solution below does not clear the history. Every
time that I type a partial name, the incorrect recipient
will AutoComplete. Very annoying indeed.

You other option of turning off the AutoComplete is not
what I am looking for, either, because I am interested in
turning off the History feature, not turning off the
AutoComplete.

The only solution that I have found is to clear the cache
entirely:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;Q287623

If you have any way of giving feedback to Microsoft to
have an option of turning off the history in future
patches or release, or if you know of a channel where I
may submit my own feedback, please let me know.

You misunderstand how the AutoComplete cache works, then. In Outlook, the
AutoComplete feature works against addresses you've previously typed in, not
against your Contacts. So in a nutshell, the "history" IS AutoComplete.

If Outlook suggests an address when you start typing in a name and it's not
an address you want to keep in the cache, press delete while the suggestion
for the rest of the address is still highlighted, so that only the text you
actually typed still appears in the box. Now press CTRL-K. You should get
a list of possible matches from your Contacts folder(s). Select the one you
want to use and press OK. Now clear the contents of the To box again and
start typing the name. It should now give you both choices -- the bad entry
and the other one you just chose from Contacts. Highlight the bad entry
(you may have to click on it to highlight it, but if you do, don't release
the mouse button) and press Delete. That should get rid of it, and now when
you type the name, it should complete with the address you chose from
Contacts. (CTRL-K is a way to manually resolve against your Contacts
folder -- it used to be automatic before Outlook 2002, but it wasn't the
same as AutoComplete, since you had to manually resolve an address once
before Outlook would remember it.)
