how to clear the URL list in IE / Windows Explorer?

Hi All!

I am asked to do a favour - to clear one PC (win XP home) that was used a
day or two for surfing the "undecent" sites (the sites beginnning with "s"
and "x" ;o)

I promissed to do that thinking: "it couldn't be more than clicking on a few
buttons in IE"... and I got surprised!

All "normal" sites vanish, but those just keep on being there. (I did
"Delete cookies" and "Delete files" under Temporary Internet Files; I also
cleared Forms and Passwords from Content/AutoComplete)

I tried also to clear the list of the recently accessed document (since the
same "s" and "x" sites appeared also in address field of Windows Explorer),
but no help.

Then I thought: registry! Found the sites there, deleted, but they are in
URL list even after that! Then I searched all the files on harddisk for the
words from URL sites - couldn't find any.

Then I tried with Norton System Works 2003 - no help either.

I got so desperat that I even tried some free utilities (like Lavasoft's
Ad-aware), but it couldn't help either.

There is though one thing that "helps" - turning off AutoComplete for Web
addresses under Content/AutoComplete.... but as soon as I turn it on again,
they come back!

Tried also uninstall IE / restart / install IE - no help....

Now there is just one thing to do: reinstall the whole system!

I would really like to avoid that - too much work. There SHOULD be a way to
find those things and clear them....?

Thanx in advance,

Kizetoni

You already tried AdAware. What about the others ?

spybot (free) http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

cwshredder (free) http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

spyware blaster http://www.webattack.com/dlnow/rdir.dll?id=105693

For some other useful removal tools

Also do a full virus scan.

What one doesn't get, the others hopefully should. Have fun... (;
