Hello,

I got a question here about the user profile path setting. Any registered
program uses the path C:\Documents and Settings\adrisa0\Application Data for
storing their core data (sometimes even temp data) and thus the profile space
is running low after a while. E.g. the RealPlayer puts his database files
(media lib) into the profile folder “C:\Documents and
Settings\adrisa0\Application Data\Real\db…â€

I tried with the set command to point the APPDATA path right ahead of the
Real Player installation to a different location; however it still uses the
profile storage path. How can I prevent this…

Thanks, Sandro

The environment variable only serves as an indication to programs of the
profile's location. The location of the "profile root" (C:\Documents and
Settings) is determined by a registry setting.

Changing the profile root on a machine with active users is not advisable
anyway, as some (badly-written) programs create absolute references to files
within it. Thus if you did this it could lead to a lot of trouble!

It may be possible to change a setting in Realplayer's registry section to
relocate its database, but I'm not all that familiar with Realplayer; I use
Real Alternative.
