Hello!

Currently I use Windows XP of the russian version.
Is it possible to change the language of the OS to the japanese one?
Is there any free language packs for that?

thanks,

Windows XP Professional supports the MUI (Multi-lingual User Interface) so
if you have XP Professional it appears that you can do so.

It seems not every WinXP supports that...
How can I know if I have MUI?

Hi there,

I am reading the posts about the MUI here and almost all say that if you
don't have an English Windows XP Pro, you cannot use MUI. Furthermore is
should not be possible to change from a non-English Windows XP Pro to English.

But, if one goes to the MSDN Download Center, there you can find the
"Windows XP Multilingual User Interface Pack CD" which says:

-------------------------------------------------------------
The Windows XP Professional MUI Pack allows users to change the language of
the operating system user interface to any of the supported localized
language versions (including English).
-------------------------------------------------------------

Please note: (including English) !!! And there is no mentioning that you
must have the English version of XP!

But, again, when you look at the content list of the MUI CDs, there is no
English around.

So, is there a competent MS person around, who can solve this mistery once
and for all? Everbody is talking, but nobody knows...

What is with this MUI thing, please enlight is, Billy!

Thanks!

Once you install it you can switch to english. It needs to be installed on an english version. Understand it is for multinationals who want one version for many countries. It's purpose isn't to change windows into a multi language OS (although it does that too) but to allow one install for every country. The spanish users will never see english, unless they want to.
