Using Vista Home Premium...

When running Aero, the light blue "Highlight" color that identifies selected
items in folders is too light for my tastes.
Especially when using the Registry Editor, when you're scrolling a large
tree structure, the highlighted item in the left pane is nearly invisble.

How can I change its appearance?
I found the "old" display properties under:
Personalize
Window Color and Appearance
Open classic appearance properties for more color options
Advanced
Item
Selected Items

but this setting has no effect if you're using Aero...

OK. Seeing as I've not found a way to change the actual colour without using
a "Classic" theme, I too was piffed that I could barely make out the light
blue.

The fix was that I had my flatscreen monitor's contrast up at 100% - too
high. Lowering it really brought out the highlight so I could distinguish it
much better. Your mileage will vary, but I set my LCD monitor's bright at
47% and contrast at 47% and everything's fine that way.
