Hi,

I have Primary Domain Controller in Windows 2k3 server, and Additional
Domain Controller as same. Iwant to change the ADC to PDC. I transfered the
zones in DNS and try changing the 5 FSMO roles but it says the error:

The transfer of the operations master role cannot be performed because: The
request FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO holder could not be
contacted.

in the RID Master changing. but i changed the PDC emulater and
Infrastructure Master by forcefully.

and also when i restart that system or reopen that window its goto default
Primary Domain cntroller. Any one please help me out of this problem .

Thanks in Advance.

With regards,
Balaji

Check your DNS settings. Sounds like a DNS issue if you can't contact
the FMSO holder. Are you running AD across multiple sites?

Have you lost a dc without cleaning up metadata. You shouldn't have
forefully moved (NTDSUTIL?) your fsmo roles. There is a reason why they
wouldn't transfer, you need to determine what that is. DON'T try and force
the RID transfer. If I recall correctly once this FSMO role is seized you
should NEVER bring this DC back online.

Run diagnostics against your Active Directory domain.

If you don't have the tools installed, install them from your server install
disk.
d:\support\tools\setup.exe

Run dcdiag and netdiag in verbose mode.

If you download a gui script I wrote it should be simple to set and run. It
also has the option to run individual tests without having to learn all the
switch options. The details will be output in notepad text files that pop
up automagically.

The script is located in the download section on my website at
http://www.pbbergs.com

Just select both dcdiag and netdiag make sure verbose is set. (Leave the
default settings for dcdiag as set when selected)

When complete search for fail, error and warning messages.
